We are currently hiring a Field Inspector to assist in our 179D projects focused on engineering and energy efficiency. This is a unique opportunity to work with the nation’s premier 179D tax consulting and engineering practice.


Summary of Duties:

As a 179D Field Inspector, you will report to the Associate Director, 179D Practice Leader. The 179D Field Inspector is a specialized role focused on conducting thorough and precise inspections for buildings being considered for the 179D tax deduction. This position requires frequent travel, up to 80%, to various commercial sites to evaluate HVAC, interior lighting, and building envelope systems. The role mandates expertise in interpreting construction plans and schedules. It also involves direct consultations with ABGI staff, clients, and building owners to validate the efficiency improvements in line with 179D requirements. This is a remote position, but occasional travel to Houston may be requested.


Responsibilities (A Day in the Life)

  • Travel to commercial buildings to conduct detailed inspections for 179D tax deductions
  • Evaluate HVAC, interior lighting, and building envelope systems, focusing on their efficiency and interaction
  • Develop an expertise in reviewing construction plans, schedules, and specifications
  • Prepare and evaluate documentation required for energy models and/or field inspections
  • Validate the work performed on the buildings against the 179D requirements
  • Coordinate and schedule field inspections directly with building owners in partnership with Senior Associates/Project Managers.
  • Manage and update a centralized calendar for inspections.


Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Field Inspector specifically within a professional services environment and working with the 179D deduction.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science or Arts degree required.
  • Strong project management skills, with a proven track record of successfully managing projects from initiation to completion.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Salesforce CRM
  • Ability to travel up to 90% of the time for field inspections for the 179D practice.
  • Solid understanding of the Energy Efficient Commercial Building Property tax incentive (Internal Revenue Code section 179d) or similar tax incentives would be advantageous.
